The Lynching

Bill Whittle does a great job of summing up the story of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman.  Trayvon was not a sweet child, and George was not a racist vigilante.

In fact, George Zimmerman is one of the most caring people you could meet - no matter what race you happen to be.

It's incomprehensible and unconscionable that politicians and people with an agenda have twisted this story beyond recognition and have thus placed George in grave danger.

Please share.  The more people who know the truth, the more safe George will be.

If an unarmed kid, taller than me, was bashing my head into the street and no one was coming to help me, and I possessed the means to protect myself, I would do it. Do I shoot back when my head is bashed the 1st time, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th, 20th, when I'm unconscious with permanent brain damage? when I'm dead ?
There was a day when the person with the courage to put themselves at risk, protecting their family, their property and the property of others would have been looked at heroically. Not today though, no not today, until the day you may be in the position of 13 month old Antonio West's mother. If you were you'd be screaming for help from any George Zimmerman within earshot.

Granted, TM was no angel and I disliked the fact that most of the photos of him besides Zimmerman were of TM as a 13 year old. However, the transcripts between the dispatcher and Zimmerman when he mentioned "f**king [punks]" and "These a$$holes they always get away)" indicated to me a certain mindset at that point in time. Compassionate or not (in general), if his shorts were on a little too tight that evening, he still decided he was going to pursue TM even when told not to by the dispatcher.

Probably fed up with the crime rate. I know I've said things I've regretted. The media hype is a reverse-racial and GUN CONTROL thing ... http://dcclothesline.com/2013/07/22/pastor-jesse-lee-peterson-trayvon-was-a-thug/ ... AND WHERE WAS THE MEDIA ON THIS ONE ... http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/56737?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook#.Ue6otyi5qX8.facebook

My younger son spent about a year in the Fort Pierce area in Florida back in the early 2000's and was stunned to see just how much racial tension there was down there. I reminded him that Florida was still part of the deep south.
Regarding Zimmerman, the reason I mentioned his two disparaging remarks, wasn't to indicate he's a racist, just to present his mindset - as previously mentioned - that evening.
I also don't see it as a gun control issue per se. I think that Florida's version of the "Stand Your Ground" law possibly emboldened GZ into pursuing TM. He must have known that if he was attacked, under the law, he could shoot TM. In PA, the law states that outside the home/residence, a would-be defender must first see a deadly weapon (knife, gun, etc.) before he can kill an assailant.

Katie, this is a terrible loss. Our prayers are with Trayvon's family and friends. George Zimmerman would probably be the first to tell you that he wishes he could live that night over. But lets look at the situation.

Trayvon had the size, strength, and combat skills of a man. He hid and waited for George with the intent to kill him. He had drugs in his system. His phone was full of violent, sexualized content. He had stolen before. George was right. Trayvon was on drugs and he was up to no good.

But if you followed the case at all, you know that Trayvon was the one who jumped George and was on top of him, telling him he was going to kill him. George had a right to defend himself.

George on the other hand had a record of helping other people, black and white, and reaching out whenever there was a need. Even now, when his life is in great danger because of the many lies that have been told about him, he reached out and helped a family in a car crash. He's the kind of guy who cares deeply about people. It caused him to tutor kids, to defend a black youth attacked by police, to be a neighborhood watchman, and give many other acts of service.

TM attacked Zimmerman after being pursued by him. If he had followed the instructions of the dispatcher who specifically told him not to pursue...to which he replied "Okay". Had he waited, the police would have arrived and they would have pursued TM themselves. Besides, how many times have you heard in the news about someone who has snapped and shot up the neighborhood being described as a really nice guy and the last person they'd suspect would do something like that.

George had stopped following Trayvon. Rather than leave, Trayvon hid in the bushes and waited for four minutes to ambush George when he finally passed by.

The jury examined the evidence. Even though the defense was not allowed to present evidence about Trayvon's drug use, his violent activities, and stolen articles in his possession, George Zimmerman was found innocent.

I wish it had ended another way, but blaming George is not the answer.

Of the 58 witnesses that testified, did anybody actually hear what was said between the Zimmerman and the a$$hole/f**king punk prior to the physical confrontation? Perhaps Zimmerman, who had been training vigorously in mixed martial arts in the weeks leading up to the shooting (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2013/6/28/4475994/george-zimmerman-training-mma-weeks-before-trayvon-martin-shooting), was emboldened by said training (and more than likely aware of the "Stand Your Ground" law in his state) and therefore felt he could handle a physical confrontation, if it came to that. Also, unless I missed something in the call to the Sanford Police dispatcher, he was asked if he was following Martin and Zimmerman said he was. (http://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/326700/full-transcript-zimmerman.pdf). Not only was he following Martin, but he decided to get out of his SUV. And during this evil eye scenario, not once did he identify himself as a neighborhood watch captain (http://abcnews.go.com/2020/george-zimmerman-recalled-trayvon-martin-gosh/story?id=19543886). He also stated he wasn't on duty that evening and didn't realize he had his gun and holster until they were fighting (http://www.hlntv.com/interactive/2013/06/17/zimmerman-trayvon-map-interactive)...really? And, Trayvon Martin saying "You're going to die tonight!" and "You got me!"...really? I think Zimmerman has been watching too many old gangster movies. Regarding the possible profiling issue, here's another link regarding the FBI findings (http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/does-george-zimmerman-have-a-hero-complex/question-3807127/?page=6&postId=112446251). In Philadelphia, PA, where I reside, many young men wear hoodies in the cooler weather (it was February) - my younger son included. I'd be willing to bet that most of them are not gang members.
IMO, George Zimmerman believed he could take care of himself that night and when things got out of control (underestimated Martin's strength), he had to resort to the shooting. I do, on the other hand, believe that Zimmerman was in fear for his life before he shot Martin, but alas, Martin is not around to tell his side of the story.
Did everything happen the way Zimmerman said it did? Could he have been lying about what went down prior to the fight, considering the fact that he (and wife) had lied about their finances at the initial bond hearing on April 20th (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-06-01/zimmerman-trayvon-martin/55331072/1)?

Off duty or not, George was clearly a concerned neighborhood watchman protecting his neighborhood from a perceived threat. We don't have a good way of knowing how accurate all of his testimony was. But we do know that witnesses for Trayvon's team were often unwittingly helpful for the defense.

The purpose of this post is not to endlessly debate this sad case.

Politicians and others with a political agenda tried to make this into a "lynching." They hid the facts and twisted the events beyond recognition.

George was found "not guilty," but they were otherwise very successful. They have activated their base. Many young blacks are deeply wounded and agitated. Some of them are attacking innocent whites as their attempt at "justice for Trayvon."

George Zimmerman will always be a marked man.

You're correct there on the "marked man" statement. Despite his acquittal, I noticed that his expression never changed. While his defense team smiled and shook hands, he remained stoic and sober throughout.
