This year, the Martin Luther King holiday falls on January 16th, which is also Religious Freedom Day.
This is a good time to talk with our families about the great men and women who have worked for religious freedom and civil rights, and the respect we should have for all people as children of God.
Your family may enjoy this beautiful video about John Newton. Once a ruthless slave trader, through the power of God he changed and became a man of great faith who worked tirelessly for the abolition of slavery. We know him best as the author of the well-loved hymn, “Amazing Grace.”
His story can give each of us hope. No person who desires to change is beyond the loving help of an all-powerful God. And with God, nothing is impossible!
