Reflections for the New Year

Picture

"A man decided that he would change the world.
But, he wasn’t successful.

So he decided to change the country.
But, he wasn’t successful.

So he decided to change his community.
But, he wasn’t successful.

So he decided to change his street.
But, be wasn’t successful.

So he decided to change his family.
But, he wasn’t successful.

So he decided to change himself.
AND HE WAS SUCCESSFUL.

AND HIS FAMILY CHANGED AND THEY AFFECTED THEIR STREET.

AND THE PEOPLE ON THE STREET AFFECTED THEIR COMMUNITY.

AND THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY AFFECTED THEIR COUNTRY.

AND THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY AFFECTED THE WORLD."

2012 will be an important and pivotal year in the history of America.

If we each focus on our sphere of influence,
no matter how small or seemingly insignificant,
we can make a difference.

And with God's help we will change the world.

Have You Seen "The Iron Lady?"

Why Margaret Thatcher Matters

Margaret Thatcher is an exemplary woman, a great leader, a courageous advocate for freedom, and a true friend of the United States.

Hearing Lady Thatcher speak (in person) while I was a college student changed my life.  She was an eloquent advocate for freedom then, and her speech inspired me to read more about her amazing life.  She, working with President Reagan and Pope John Paul II, changed the course of history.

In the words of Sally McNamara, "Margaret Thatcher proved that national decline is a choice, not an inevitability.  A nation can choose to be one in retreat, or it can march forward to the beat of its own drum.  In the same way that President Reagan made Americans once again believe in the shining city on the hill, Lady Thatcher gave Britain back its sense of greatness."

"The Iron Lady," the newly-released movie about Mrs. Thatcher, does not do her justice.

Still, Meryl Streep is a masterful actress, and in her article, "Jobs, Thatcher and the Force of Life," Peggy Noonan calls the movie the "unexpected cinematic gift of the year."  It may be worth seeing.

The first video below is a fascinating four minute interview with Claire Berlinski about her book, "Why Margaret Thatcher Matters."  Claire tells how Lady Thatcher rescued the British economy when they were in serious economic decline.  The second video is a trailer from "The Iron Lady."

This link takes you to two wonderful videos.

The first is Mrs. Thatcher giving a special tribute to President Reagan for his funeral.  This part of her speech lasts seven minutes.  Her affectionate tribute to President Reagan reveals her courage and nobility as well as his.

The second video is an excellent 58 minute interview from C-SPAN.  Mrs. Thatcher discusses her book, "The Downing Street Years," and the ten years she spent as prime minister of Great Britain.

These are videos worth watching with your older children, especially your daughters.

Mrs. Thatcher is a powerful role model for young people preparing to make a difference in the world!

Getting to Know the Romneys

They say you can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his wife.  If that's true, Mitt Romney is quite a guy.  He treats his wife with great love and respect, and has for 42 years.  They faced Ann's multiple sclerosis together, and Mitt's love and support gave Ann the strength she needed.  It's fun to watch them interact.  They make a great team.

A Man With a Mission

I've been impressed by Ron Paul's devotion to the  Constitution, his clarity of thought, and his leadership and courage in addressing the corruption in Washington.

Dr. Paul is a man of character.  Unlike many politicians, he has been a consistent conservative for many years.

He makes decisions based on what is best for America, not what is best for himself.

One small example is that  Dr. Paul has chosen not to participate in the luxurious Congressional retirement program.  He is in politics to help our country, not to help himself.

Silent Night!  Holy Night!

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Whittling Obama's Policies Down to Size

"In his last Afterburner of 2011, Bill Whittle takes a look at the state of this country three years into Obama's rule and has amassed a list of breathtaking failures bound to stun and/or depress champions of smaller government.

"Solyndra, Fast & Furious, the Keystone Pipeline and the deficit are just a handful of the scandals that make Bill's blood boil."

Maybe 2012 will be the year for real hope and change!
