Freedom of the Press?

10/31/2011

Picture
Last week reporter Jason Mattera asked VP Joe Biden for a picture and then asked him an uncomfortable question.

Biden answered with false information.

In fact, the Washington Post gave Joe four "Pinocchios" on his facts - the worst honesty rating possible.

But Biden didn't stop there.  He threatened the reporter, "Don't screw around with me!"  Well, he must have meant it, because now the reporter is facing a White House investigation and could lose his media credentials.

And the current conversation in the media is all about how the reporter asked the question and not about Biden's lies.

Should politicians be able to threaten and intimidate members of the press that way?

Do you think our Constitutional guarantee of "freedom of the press" is safe when reporters know they have to avoid touchy topics?

True to Our Times

Sometimes the heroes of history look larger than life.

It can even appear as if they didn’t have to deal with the challenges and adversity the rest of us face.

From our perspective, after the fact, it can seem as if the exhausting battles they fought were almost easy and that defeat was never really an option.

Nothing can be farther from reality.

They valiantly sacrificed for freedom even as they faced great challenges, including their own weaknesses.  They were true when the outlook was bleak.  They were willing to pledge their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor when it looked like they would lose everything they held dear - and some of them did.

May we also be true, and pay the price to preserve liberty, as we rise to the times in which we live!

When Life Seems Too Hard...

You Can Do It!

Picture
We live in difficult times.  Sometimes life is overwhelming.
When it is, it’s good to remember that every adversity carries within it the seeds of equal or greater opportunity.

When we learn to value the rain as well as the sunshine in our lives, we can look forward to a rich harvest.

Our trials can become our greatest blessings.  Not that we seek trials, but rich rewards await us as we face them with courage and faith.

Note:  This isn't a typical post.  It was not planned.  It just came.

Because I pray for you, the wonderful people who come here, I wondered if someone might need a little extra encouragement as they read this.  If so, I'm praying for YOU.

God loves you.  He's aware of you.  He will help you.  Hang on!

Happy Birthday Margaret Thatcher!

Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher celebrated her 86th birthday this month.

She is an exemplary woman, a great leader, a courageous advocate for freedom, and a true friend to the United States.

In the words of Sally McNamara, “Margaret Thatcher proved that national decline is a choice, not an inevitability. A nation can choose to be one in retreat, or it can march forward to the beat of its own drum. In the same way that President Reagan made Americans once again believe in the shining city on the hill, Lady Thatcher gave Britain back its sense of greatness.”

We wish Mrs. Thatcher a very happy birthday and a wonderful year ahead!

Hooray Wisconsin! Your Budget Reforms Worked!

Looks Like a Model Other States Can Use!

Progressive politicians and labor unions came unglued when Governor Scott Walker attempted to keep his campaign promises to the people of Wisconsin.

Union demonstrators caused millions of dollars  of damage to the state capitol.

Lawmakers who supported Governor Walker's plan faced recall elections and threats of violence.

BUT THE PLAN WORKED!  WISCONSIN IS BACK ON TRACK!

Lesson for Voters:  Do what's best for the people.  Don't pay attention to union propaganda.  Unions have an insatiable appetite for money and power.

                              For additional information, see www.itsworkingwisconsin.com.

Here are some of the specifics of Wisconsin's successful plan.

You might want to forward a link to your state and local politicians!

Glimpses Into the Lives of John and Abigail Adams

Americans today still reap blessings from the sacrifices made by John and Abigail Adams.  Born at a pivotal time in history, they rose to the incredible challenges of their day.  Their example as a couple, and as Americans, is inspiring.

A Symbol of Liberty to the World

"The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886.

"The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.

"A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue has become an icon of freedom and of the United States."

Obama Uses Executive Orders to Bypass Congress

10/28/2011

The inspired principles of the Constitution of the United States have been responsible for the greatest freedom, accomplishment, peace, and prosperity in the history of the world.

A government based on these principles gives people the opportunity to rise to their God-given gifts and potential without the interference of government, and the result has been remarkable for the people of the United States.

One powerful principle that keeps the government from becoming too overbearing is the separation of powers into three branches of government - executive, legislative, and judicial.

In addition, the Constitution further divides the power of government and keeps it as close to the people as possible by giving the federal government very few, and clearly defined, responsibilities.  All powers not expressly given to the federal government by the Constitution are reserved for the individual states.

So now, we have a president (executive branch) who believes he has the power to do what he wants regardless of Congress (legislative branch) and the will of the people.  It’s probably not a coincidence that the least-prepared president in U.S. history is also the most arrogant in assuming un-Constitutional power.

In the words of Peggy Noonan,  “Here is an old tradition badly in need of return: You have to earn your way into politics. You should go have a life, build a string of accomplishments, then enter public service. And you need actual talent: You have to be able to bring people in and along. You can't just bully them, you can't just assert and taunt, you have to be able to persuade.”

Obamacare Penalizes Women and Married People

"Millions of Families Will Be Stuck in a
No Man's Land Without Affordable Coverage"

Obamacare is full of "unintended consequences."  Doctors, tired of overbearing government regulations, are retiring early from their practices.  Some businesses, unable to plan what their actual expenses will be, have stopped hiring.  Other businesses have dropped the health insurance plans they previously offered, preferring to pay heavy fines rather than comply with excessive and expensive mandates.

The system works so poorly that thousands of expemptions have been given.  For example, many businesses (especially in Nancy Pelosi's district), and even some states (like Harry Reid's Nevada), don't have to comply with the onerous requirements.

More and more people are asking, "If Obamacare is so great, why are so many waivers being given to unions and other Obama cronies?  Why is the government creating a favored class that doesn't have to obey the laws the rest of us have to obey?"

Now, it's becoming apparent Obamacare imposes a significant financial penalty on women and individuals who choose to marry.

What's next?
