Wow!  Former Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kerry Healey, who served with Mitt Romney when he was Governor, spoke to the Republican National Convention and gave Mitt a glowing endorsement.

She addressed Mitt's work ethic, his leadership, his commitment to education, and his ability to solve the problems that face us today.

I particularly appreciate the introduction from my good friend and tireless campaign companion, Gov. Bob McDonnell. He is showing what conservative leadership can do to build a stronger economy.

Thank you also Congressman Goodlatte for joining us today. And particular thanks to Gen. Peay.

I appreciate your invitation to be with you today at the Virginia Military Institute.

It is a great privilege to be here at an Institution that has done so much for our nation, both in war and in peace.

For more than 170 years, VMI has done more than educate students. It has guided their transformation into citizens, and warriors, and leaders. VMI graduates have served with honor in our nation’s defense, just as many are doing today in Afghanistan and other lands. Since the September 11th attacks, many of VMI’s sons and daughters have defended America, and I mourn with you the 15 brave souls who have been lost. I join you in praying for the many VMI graduates and all Americans who are now serving in harm’s way. May God bless all who serve, and all who have served.

Of all the VMI graduates, none is more distinguished than George Marshall—the Chief of Staff of the Army who became Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense, who helped to vanquish fascism and then planned Europe’s rescue from despair. His commitment to peace was born of his direct knowledge of the awful costs and consequences of war.

General Marshall once said, “The only way human beings can win a war is to prevent it.” Those words were true in his time—and they still echo in ours.

Mitt Romney's Acceptance Speech

Have you ever woken up in the morning with that Christmas feeling in your heart?  Even when it wasn't Christmas?

We woke up like that this morning.  It feels like a new day in America.  Mitt Romney didn't promise impossible miracles, but he promised to help us and our families.

And he has the vision and experience to keep that promise!

If you are short on time, here are a few highlights from the speech...

Read Mitt's Speech:  Transcript

"And that's how it is in America. We look to our communities, our faiths, our families for our joy, our support, in good times and bad. It is both how we live our lives and why we live our lives. The strength and power and goodness of America has always been based on the strength and power and goodness of our communities, our families, our faiths."  ~Mitt Romney

"When every new wave of immigrants looked up and saw the Statue of Liberty, or knelt down and kissed the shores of freedom just ninety miles from Castro's tyranny, these new Americans surely had many questions. But none doubted that here in America they could build a better life, that in America their children would be more blessed than they."  ~Mitt Romney

The Core Principles of Liberty

Few people in the history of the world have known liberty, and most who experienced liberty did not have sufficient peace and prosperity to enjoy it.

We are among the rare people in all of history who have enjoyed liberty, peace, and prosperity.

Even fewer lived at a time when they could help shape the world for future generations.  But we live at such a time.  In fact, we stand at the crossroads of history, and the outcome is uncertain.

The choices we make in the next few years will have a profound impact on generations to come.

Each of us must give our best efforts if we are to keep the flame of liberty alive.  Now is the time to teach our children the vital principles preserved in the Constitution that lay the foundation for our liberty and prosperity.

As parents, and especially as mothers, we are the guardians of civilization.  We help prepare the hearts and minds of the leaders and patriots of the next generation.  We must help them prepare for the work and sacrifices ahead.

This video, "We Still Hold These Truths," is a good one to watch with our kids because it talks about some of the important principles that make America great.

The book, We Still Hold These Truths, summarizes the foundational principles of liberty in a way that's easy to understand and remember.

The We Still Hold These Truths Leader's Guide is a powerful free resource for your study.

And, of course, PatrioticMoms.com has some excellent lessons and resources, like the ones in LEARN and TEACH tabs on the main menu.

The Abortion President

8/30/2012

"In light of the recent national discussion over abortion, it's important Americans know the President's best-kept secret: his extreme record on abortion.

"Melissa Ohden's powerful story draws a stark contrast to his unbending support of abortion and the abortion industry and reveals the human face to this debate." said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

"President Obama's appalling record on abortion is not just limited to his four votes to deny rights to abortion survivors but spans to his recent heartless refusal to support bans on sex-selection and late-term abortions.

"These actions fly in the face of mainstream American views and run counter to the President's first term pre-election talk of finding common ground. Recent polling reveals the majority of Americans support bans on these horrific practices."

"There are Americans who voted for the president, but who are searching right now, because they know that their votes didn't build the country they wanted.

"To those Democrats and independents whose minds are open to argument: listen closely to the Democratic Party that will gather in Charlotte and ask yourself if you ever hear your voice in the clamor.

"Ask yourself if these Democrats still speak for you.

"When they say we have a duty to grow government even when we can't afford it, does it sound like compassion to you -- or recklessness?"  ~Artur Davis

"I think tonight of the Greatest Generation.

"We look back and marvel at their courage – overcoming the Great Depression, fighting Nazi tyranny, standing up for freedom around the world.

"Now it’s our time to answer history’s call.

"For make no mistake, every generation will be judged and so will we.

"What will our children and grandchildren say of us? Will they say we buried our heads in the sand, we assuaged ourselves with the creature comforts we’ve acquired, that our problems were too big and we were too small, that someone else should make a difference because we can’t?

"Or will they say we stood up and made the tough choices needed to preserve our way of life?

"I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my children and grandchildren to have to read in a history book what it was like to live in an American Century."   ~Chris Christie

Ann Romney Reaches Out to Nation

Picture

It's no secret that Ann Romney is a favorite around here, so expectations were high for her speech tonight.

And she was even better than we expected!  Hope you enjoy what she has to say as much as we did.

Transcript of Ann's Remarks

I want to talk to you tonight not about politics and not about party.

And while there are many important issues we’ll hear discussed in this convention and throughout this campaign, tonight I want to talk to you from my heart about our hearts.

I want to talk not about what divides us, but what holds us together as an American family. I want to talk to you tonight about that one great thing that unites us, that one thing that brings us our greatest joy when times are good, and the deepest solace in our dark hours.

Tonight I want to talk to you about love.

I want to talk to you about the deep and abiding love I have for a man I met at a dance many years ago. And the profound love I have, and I know we share, for this country.

I want to talk to you about that love so deep only a mother can fathom it — the love we have for our children and our children’s children.

And I want us to think tonight about the love we all share for those Americans, our brothers and sisters, who are going through difficult times, whose days are never easy, nights are always long, and whose work never seems done.

They are here among us tonight in this hall; they are here in neighborhoods across Tampa and all across America. The parents who lie awake at night side by side, wondering how they’ll be able to pay the mortgage or make the rent; the single dad who’s working extra hours tonight, so that his kids can buy some new clothes to go back to school, can take a school trip or play a sport, so his kids can feel… like the other kids.

And the working moms who love their jobs but would like to work just a little less to spend more time with the kids, but that’s just out of the question with this economy. Or that couple who would like to have another child, but wonder how will they afford it.

I’ve been all across this country for the past year and a half and heard these stories of how hard it is to get ahead now. I’ve heard your voices: “I’m running in place,” “we just can’t get ahead.”

Sometimes I think that late at night, if we were all silent for just a few moments and listened carefully, we could hear a great collective sigh from the moms and dads across America who made it through another day, and know that they’ll make it through another one tomorrow. But in that end of the day moment, they just aren’t sure how.

And if you listen carefully, you’ll hear the women sighing a little bit more than the men. It’s how it is, isn’t it?

It’s the moms who always have to work a little harder, to make everything right.

It’s the moms of this nation — single, married, widowed — who really hold this country together. We’re the mothers, we’re the wives, we’re the grandmothers, we’re the big sisters, we’re the little sisters, we’re the daughters.

You know it’s true, don’t you?

You’re the ones who always have to do a little more.

You know what it’s like to work a little harder during the day to earn the respect you deserve at work and then come home to help with that book report which just has to be done.

You know what those late night phone calls with an elderly parent are like and the long weekend drives just to see how they’re doing.

You know the fastest route to the local emergency room and which doctors actually answer the phone when you call at night.

You know what it’s like to sit in that graduation ceremony and wonder how it was that so many long days turned into years that went by so quickly.

You are the best of America.

You are the hope of America.

There would not be an America without you.

Tonight, we salute you and sing your praises.

"The America I Know"

Mia Love's Speech at the Republican National Convention

Picture

Mia Love, popular 36-year-old mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, spoke at the Republican National Convention today.  Find out why people love her!

“Let me tell you about the America I know.  My parents immigrated to the U.S.  with $10 in their pocket, believing that the America they had heard about really did exist.  When times got tough they did not look to Washington, they looked within.  So, the America I came to know was centered in personal responsibility and filled with the American dream.

“The America I know is grounded in the determination found in patriots and pioneers, in small business owners with big ideas, in the farmers who work in the beauty of our landscapes, in our heroic military, and our inspiring Olympians.  It is in every child who looks at the seemingly impossible and says, “I can do that.”  That is the America I know!

“President Obama’s version of America is a divided one, often pitting us against each other based on our income level, gender, and social status.  His policies have failed.  We are not better off than we were four years ago and no rhetoric, bumper sticker, or Hollywood ad campaign can change that.

“Mr. President I am here to tell you – we are not buying what you are selling in 2012.

“Why?  Because we know that the American dream is not just my story, and it is not just your story, it is our story.  It is a story of human struggle – of standing up and striving for more.  It’s been told for over 200 years with small steps and giant leaps:  from a woman on a bus to a man with a dream; from the bravery of the greatest generation to the entrepreneurs of today.  This is our story – this is the America we know because we built it.

“With Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan we can revive the American story we know and love. The world will know it, our children will tell it, and our grandchildren will possess it for years to come!”
