What Do You Want Your Children to Remember About Today?

One bedtime tradition we had when our children were young was to read a story, say prayers, tuck them in bed, and then talk about their day for a few minutes. They especially enjoyed sharing the “best” and “worst” parts of their day.
I was surprised how often the “best” memories centered around simple things that had happened at home - enjoying the smell of freshly baked bread as they came home from school, playing with a puppy, jumping on the trampoline with friends, planting a family garden, or reading a book together.
One night, after kind of a hectic day, I asked my young son what the best part of his day was. After quite a pause, he said, “I think looking up at this picture right now (referring to the picture hanging above his bed) is the favorite part of my day.
He was absolutely sincere. He wasn’t critical. He was doing his best to think of something happy from the day and that was the best he could come up with. His words touched my heart. I really needed to create more happy moments at home.
They say a mom’s job is making memories. What would you like your children to remember about their childhood? What can you do to create happy memories today?
